All children should be screened regularly because of the simple reason that problems caught early can be remedied. Undetected, some vision problems could lead to permanent vision loss.
The screening at each of theses ages is different and takes into account the growth for that period. By performing these screenings, you can catch misalignment, lazy eye, myopia (near sightedness), hyperopia, and astigmatism.
When you catch and deal with these potential problems, you can correct them and alleviate what would certainly be struggle in school.
Test for Color Blindness
A new study has shown that this test can be performed as soon as the child reaches age 5. Why would you want to do this test at all and why so early in life?
First, you need to understand that color blindness is not a blindness at all. Rather it is an inability to see colors accurately. This can make learning more difficult. But if known, specialized lesson plans can be developed that take this into account allowing the child to succeed.
If the color blindness goes undetected, it can be very hard on the child who might get grouped in the wrong academic track.
